Our live coverage of The Block 2024 auctions is now over. Congratulations to the winners.
That’s a wrap on The Block auction for 2024
9:54pm
What a night! With a combined total of $5.43 million in winnings, this year’s contestants secured the highest amount in the history of The Block. Over 20 seasons, the show has given away $39,627,139.63 in total winnings.

Adrian Portelli buys the lot!
9.28pm
Adrian Portelli, AKA: Lambo Guy makes his last appearance on The Block after buying all five of the 2024 properties for $15m.
Auction five – Maddy & Charlotte win The Block!
9.25pm
This team did not start the show, but gosh, are they going to finish it.
The gals look excited, yet composed, as they address the auction crowd.
“The girls have gone on a journey as the youngest contestants on The Block,” the auctioneer says.
Adrian Portelli and Danny Wallis are both in the room.
First bid $2.5m … but before we know it … a bid of $3.5m
A winning bid!
SOLD! And to Adrian Portelli. It’s a profit of $1.55 million plus the $100,000 winners’ prize for the youngest contestants ever on The Block.

Auction four – Ricky & Haydn
9.06pm
A sweet sentiment to start this auction as local Victorian mates tell the crowd about their motivation to go on The Block.
Haydn’s brand new baby gave the team the fire to keep going in spite of some challenges on the show.
They sit with Scott Cam in some seriously silly – but fun – caps as the auction gets underway.
There’s a $2 million bid to start.
And at $2.6 it’s on the market.
But we still don’t know what the profit is!
Another bid at $2.7 million … to Adrian Portelli. The boys walk away with $750,000.
Auction three is underway
8:45pm
The only two storey home on The Block was snapped up by Kristian and Mimi. Now the couple see if their unique layout will pay-off.
The couple are the only ones with a $50,000 discount on their reserve, too.
And Mimi is already teary. Let’s be real … I would be, too.
Gosh, they’re looking ready to walk down the aisle early in their tux and white dress.
A $2 million bid to start, and then $2.5m, $2.55m, and $2.6m.
A $25,000 bid next. But Danny Wallis wants 4 cents off!
Up in $25,000 increments to $2.8 million. But then we resort to a $5000 bid.
Gosh, this one is a nail-biter.
We’ve hit $2,930,000 … and calling it …
And it’s SOLD.
It’s a profit of $1,030,000 for Kristian and Mimi.
Auction number two – Kylie & Brad
8:25pm
Oh it’s all dark, moody, texture … and the auction for “the black shack” is about to begin. Controversy has surrounded this couple in recent weeks, and some other contestants have put House 4’s popularity down to the attention received from on-screen drama.
But the pair look as calm as is possible as they sit on the couch with Scott Cam pre-auction.
And the auction begins … it’s the “biggest house on The Block” the auctioneer says.
A $2 million bid to start.
And then in $100,000 bids and then $50,000 bids.
Then in $25,000 bids … until Adrian Portelli is back with a $2.6 million bid!
And it’s sold!
A profit of $650,000 for Kylie and Brad.
The first auction kicks off
8:08pm
Courtney and Grant are looking nervous and emotional as they watch their auctioneer welcome the crowd.
“It feels very surreal,” Courtney says.
Look out, there are some fancy-looking peeps in the crowd. Grant tells Scott Cam their reserve price.
Big breaths, and here we go.
Danny Wallis kicks off … but no time passes before someone jumps in with a bid of $3 million, and Adrian Portelli bids $3.1m
Now the second bidder is back, but Portelli wastes no time and buys for $3.3m.
It’s a huge win. $1.35 million in profit.
Grant is no-longer “Grumpy”.
Reserve prices revealed
7.45pm
So each of the teams are giving their agents the reserve prices … only the boys don’t want to know, so we don’t know yet either.
House 2: Courtney & Grant: $1.95 million
House 4: Kylie & Brad: $1.95m
House 5: Kristian & Mimi: $1.90m (reduced $50k from Challenge win)
House 3: Ricky & Haydn: ?
House 1: Maddy & Charlotte: $1.95m
We can, however, make an educated guess that the boys’ reserve is probably $1.95 million.
Auction order revealed
7:35pm
There was some argy-bargy as always, but an order has been agreed upon. Interesting that Kylie and Brad’s home has had some of the most attention from buyers. Whether that translates to a win is anyone’s guess.
Here is the auction order for The Block 2024:
- House 2: Courtney & Grant
- House 4: Kylie & Brad
- House 5: Kristian & Mimi
- House 3: Ricky & Haydn
- House 1: Maddy & Charlotte
Auction order drama
7:33pm
The contestants are questioning Kylie and Brads strong buyer-interest,. They don’t want them to go first and “set the tone” for the rest of the auctions. This could take a while …
Reserve prices for The Block Auction 2024 are set
7:16pm
The reserve prices arrive with a flourish from some surf-lifesavers and are given to the contestants in secret (inside stuffed penguins, of course). We don’t yet know what each of the reserve prices are.
Kylie and Brad are back
7:12pm
The couple are still together, and have made their way to the auctions.
Back in time
7:10pm
And it all starts with a whirlwind look back at 20 years of The Block … anyone else feel old?
Here we go…
7.00pm
The Block finale is underway for 2024.
Get the popcorn, we’re settling in to watch it all live – stay with us!
How important is the auction order?
6.45pm
It’s a question on everyone’s lips each year – but does it really make a difference?
Much negotiation usually occurs to figure out the auction order – that is, if it’s not left up to chance. One thing seems to be true in recent years – try not to be last.
Just ask Leah and Ash.
Where is The Block heading next year?
6.30pm
Next year’s show is set to take place in Daylesford – another holiday town in Victoria famed for its nearby natural springs and luxury day-spas.
The small town about an hour and a half from Melbourne was meant to be the setting for this year’s show, but locals were not keen on the idea.
Next year’s build will be contained within a new development near Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens.
The median house price in Daylesford was slightly more than in Cowes in October this year – $880,000 compared with $765,000 – according to PropTrack data.
Our favourite rooms of the season
6.15
Look, this is all very subjective, but we’ve seen some homes on The Block in our time, so we reckon we’re almost up there with Shaynna, Darren and Marty (and, of course, Neale) when it comes to picking a good room.
Some of our favourites this year include:
- Both of Courtney and Grant’s bathrooms – guest and ensuite – with their large-format marble, brushed-brass hardware and sand-coloured tiles.
- Kylie and Brad’s kitchen, dining and lounge – sleek, functional, perfection.
- Kristian and Mimi’s main bedroom – burnt orange and chocolate are a match made in heaven.
- Maddy and Charlotte’s rumpus was a stroke of genius. By changing the window to a door, they opened up the opportunity for a buyer to create a separate guest wing of the home.
- And, as a Mum of two small kids, I personally cannot go past Ricky and Haydn’s guest bedroom and laundry. Form? Tick. Function? Big tick.
Check out every room reveal of the season.
Who won The Block auction last year?
6pm
Last year’s winners set a record for prize money won on the show, when Adrian Portelli bought the home they renovated.
Steph & Gian from House 4 on the Charming Street, Hampton East season of The Block took home $1.65 million plus the $100,000 prize money for the winning home.
For this year’s contestants to walk away with that amount of money, their homes would need to sell for almost double the lower end of the price guides.
What will The Block properties sell for at auction?
5.45pm
As we said a bit earlier, the price guides are some of the lowest seen on The Block since 2016 – when the reserve price for the Port Melbourne build were between $1.74 million and $1.93 million.
Still, contestants that year walked away with some big money – $425,000 for 5th place all the way up to $715,000 plus $100,000 for the winners.
Will this year’s teams pull off a similar hat-trick?
The biggest shocks of The Block 2024, continued
5.30pm
Enter ‘Flirt-gate’. It’s the first time in the show’s history that contestants from two different committed couples have been accused of getting a bit too close for comfort (that we know of).
However, it seems Kylie and Brad have overcome the incident, appearing together on Channel 9’s A Current Affair last week, with Brad stating they have “learned some things”. Time will tell if we’ll see them take part in the auctions.
The biggest shocks of The Block 2024
5.15pm
The Block rarely goes off without some sort of drama – that’s part of the reason we watch, right? But this year certainly saw emotions run higher than some other seasons.
First, the stress of the build was too much for original House 1 couple Jesse and Paige, and though they weren’t the first team to leave the show – they were the first to leave after getting almost half-way through.
Other shocks were not as serious in the grand scheme of things, and had more to do with black bathrooms and ‘peep show’ curtains.
That was, until towards the end of the build, when yet another couple fled the show.
Are investors put off by land tax in Victoria?
5:00pm
Part of the reason some experts are sceptical about whether Danny Wallis, Adrian Portelli and any other investors will bid, is due to recent changes in Victoria’s land tax thresholds for investment properties.
Since the changes took effect in July this year, about 5000 more investors have sold their properties than would otherwise have been the case, and fewer new investors have entered the market.
As we mentioned earlier, The Block properties this year are most likely to be bought as either holiday homes or Airbnbs, rather than as permanent residences, given their setup and location. But is the appetite for a Victorian investment property strong enough?
What about Danny Wallis and ‘Lambo Guy’?
4.45pm
Serial bidder and buyer on The Block, Danny Wallis, has purchased 11 homes sold on the show during the years – but will he bid again?
Another potential investor expected to attend the auction is Adrian Portelli AKA ‘Lambo Guy’, who bought three of the five properties at last year’s auctions in Hampton East.
Our eyes will be peeled for them both.
Will all the houses sell?
4.30pm
After a couple of years of pass-ins and lower prize money than some contestants had hoped for, this year’s teams will most likely be more than a tad nervous.
A couple of things make this year’s auction a bit different. First, the homes have been given some of the lowest price-guides seen on The Block in years – each have a guide of $1,700,000 to $1,850,000. For the past eight years, homes on the show have been priced at $2 million or more.
Second, the property market in Melbourne and Victoria has been soft in the past year, and in Cowes – the Phillip Island suburb where The Block 2024 is set – the median house price is down by 3.8% for the year, PropTrack data shows.
Given these homes are not likely going to attract owner-occupiers due to their location and holiday home set-up – the teams will be hoping some deep-pocketed investors are ready and willing to bid.

Will Kylie & Brad show up to the auction?
4.15pm
House 4’s Kylie & Brad left the show after backyard week judging, as tensions ran high for the couple in the aftermath of a flirting scandal.
Host Scott Cam said “this is now a competition between four houses” but it was unclear if that meant the entire competition – ie: the auctions – or just that week’s $50,000 prize.
But eagle-eyed fans may have spotted a happy looking Kylie and Brad at the races in Melbourne earlier this week, prompting speculation that the couple would most likely be at the auctions.
