Meet the women shaking up the ‘male-dominated’ design and construction industry

Jasmine Dowthwaite, Libby Brady, Nicki Harms and Tui Havendeen are behind Her Good Foundations.

Four women in the building and design industries have come together to create a not-for-profit group to leverage their network and give back to the community.

Her Good Foundations is the brainchild of Nicki Harms, Tui Havendeen, Libby Brady, and Jasmine Dowthwaite.

What began as a casual catch-up between friends transformed into a female-led movement on a mission to support underprivileged families.

“We’re so privileged to work in an industry focused on delivering beautiful homes and spaces to live and work in, but we recognise so many others in our community are enduring hardship and heartbreak right now,” Mrs Harms said.

“We really want to build on this incredible female-led network and are exploring ways to grow our potential for contribution and fundraising in the new year.

“We’re also focused on how we can tap into this professional network and make a meaningful community impact.”

The team at Her Good Foundations are on a mission to support underprivileged families on the Gold Coast.

The team at Her Good Foundations had planned a low-key event for their fist official catch up last month, but ended up hosting almost 100 women from the local building and design industry.

“We’ve been genuinely blown away by the level of interest and we believe this response shows the need for more opportunities for connection and building relationships with like-minded women working in a male-dominated industry,” Mrs Harms said.

“Whether they’re design or building professionals, working within a family construction business, or business owners and operators in their own right, it can take a lot to build credibility and respect in this industry.

“However, I think we speak for the majority when we say we’re lucky to work with some incredible men and women who are fully supportive of the critical role women play in construction and building a better and brighter future for all.”
