Holey Moley: Anglesea home has private seven-hole mini golf course

While others were busy baking sourdough during Covid lockdowns, Stephen Anderson was chipping away at his own unusual DIY project.

The Anglesea homeowner kept boredom at bay by transforming his back garden into a private seven-hole mini golf course.

The putting green, affectionately known as the Royal Ingram Golf Club, quickly established itself as a magnet for family and friends.

The course is surrounded by a white picket fence.

Mr Anderson has added a number of sand bunkers and roughs to the course.

It’s even got a custom made head-in-the-hole board – inspired by a similar one at the nearby Anglesea Golf Club – where visitors can pose for a photo.

Mr Anderson said a round of mini golf was always in high-demand at the family holiday house, which he’s recently listed for sale with $1.1775m to $1.8m price hopes.

At Christmas, everyone has the chance to win their own Royal Ingram golf ball if they hit a hole in one.

“When we have friends over they don’t get off the course, they queue up,” Mr Anderson said.

“We were jokingly saying we should put a hotdog van out the front and let the tourists come through.”

A second storey addition has created a substantial six-bedroom, four-bedroom house set on the 669sq m block at 10 Ingram Rd, Anglesea.

The current owners added the second storey extension and have more recently updated the ground floor.

The pergola has room for a table tennis court to entertain players waiting their turn.

The property is just around the corner from the popular Coogoorah Park and Anglesea River.

With an updated kitchen on each level and multiple outdoor entertainment areas, it has flexible zones ideal for accommodating larger extended families.

Surf Coast Real Estate, Anglesea listing agent Andrew Brown said in recent times the property had also starting generating holiday let income.

“It has been popular with the short-term rental and people have been staying there because of the mini golf course because you don’t see too many of those,” Mr Brown said.

“Most buyers in Anglesea buy houses for holiday homes but this is quite a substantial home and you could easily live in it as a permanent resident if you wanted to.

“His extended family have enjoyed it over the last couple of years and it’s in quite a good spot in town, so you are quite close to the local kids’ playground around the corner and you are not that far from the river.”
