The man who brought hot spot technology to cricket is hoping for a bit more than a flare as he sells his $6.6m-$7m Hawthorn home.

BBG Sports founder and owner Warren Brennan’s infra-red technology, based on systems used by the military to track fighter jets and tanks, has become a mainstay of detecting ball contact at the highest level of the sport.

It was debuted in the 2006-2007 Ashes series between Australia and England and has since been used across the country and in matches around the world.

Mr Brennan’s firm was originally founded to provide specialty broadcasting services for sports including tennis, football and horse racing.

Prior to starting BBG Sports Mr Brennan spent 12 years working at the Australian Open as part of the broadcast and technology team.

He is now hoping for a clean dismissal as he lists his 3 Ruby St, Hawthorn, home.

Records show he and Katrina Kearney bought the property in 1998 for $355,000, and have exhaustively updated and improved the address, including with an almost $1m building application for a house on the site in 2014.

The striking four-bedroom house is located in the suburb’s sought after Grace Park estate and is spread over three levels, including a basement games room and bar area.

With underwater windows looking into the backyard pool, as well as a wine cellar it’s an exceptional space.

Kay & Burton’s Walter Dodich is handling the sale, but could not discuss his vendor.

However, Mr Dodich said the “contemporary executive” house embraced minimalism that made it an easy space to enjoy without maintenance.

Mr Dodich said while the home had only recently hit the market, the popular pocket of Hawthorn was always in vogue.

“There’s not many properties that come up in Grace Park, and it’s well regarded,” he said.

Still within the estate, but around the corner on Chrystobel Cres, homes have sold for eight-figure sums in the past year showing just how high buyers’ budgets for the area can stretch.

The Ruby St property is perfect for outdoor entertainment with a backyard pool and spa surrounded by decking and served by a barbecue kitchen.

Three interior living spaces are highlighted by a striking open-plan living and dining area anchored by a kitchen with solid stone benches and Miele appliances.

More intimate gatherings can be hosted in a formal lounge zone with a custom-designed open fireplace.

A lounge space with another feature fireplace.

The bedrooms are spread across both of the home’s two main levels, with an ensuite attached to a guest bedroom on the ground floor as well as to the upper level’s main bedroom.

Further enticements include hydronic floor heating and soaring voids that provide extensive natural light to the home.

Expressions of interest for the home end at 5pm November 25.
