A classic beach house built from materials salvaged from the original Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club has hit the market.
Timber from the old clubhouse was carted 20m up the road when it was dismantled around 1950, then repurposed for the shack at 13 Ocean St.
The cottage has been extensively renovated since and will go under the hammer on November 29 with Ray White Burleigh Group agents Daniel Donovan and Conner Malan.

“It’s got a lot of mystery and intrigue to it,” Mr Donovan said.
“There’s not many old beach shacks left at Mermaid Beach now, but [this one] has been beautifully restored over the years to showcase a blend of classic yet contemporary charm.”
Mr Donovan said the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home would suit a young family or could be a knockdown-rebuild opportunity for the less nostalgic buyer.
Records show the property on a 405 sqm block with a large backyard last sold in 2017 for $1.5m and by 2021 had undergone some cosmetic improvements.

The double-storey home has a fresh mint-coloured exterior and large balcony, with polished timber floors and high raked ceilings adding to its light and airy feel.
An open-air kitchen, living and dining zone is upstairs along with two bedrooms and a study, while downstairs the third bedroom and another living space lead out to a patio, plus there’s also a double garage.
PropTrack data shows the median house price in Mermaid Beach has skyrocketed 34 per cent in the past 12 months to $3.4m.

“The light rail will be finished shortly, so it’s going to be a very livable place,” Mr Donovan said.
“Buyers are craving lifestyle — that means close to the beach, close to cafes and
restaurants and close to retail and shopping.”
Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club was founded after World War II by a number of returned servicemen from Brisbane who were patrolling the famed stretch of sand while on leave.
The clubhouse has been replaced several times over the last 80 years, and now sits on Hedges Avenue — known as ‘Multimillionaire’s Row’ for its sky-high house prices — between Montanna and Ventura Roads.
