A rural estate listed by Broncos star Corey Oates and his wife Tegan just weeks after his retirement from the NRL was Australia’s most viewed listing this week.

Located in Samford Valley, a semi-rural suburb of Brisbane, the 11 Ascot Crescent acreage property was the most viewed residential listing in the nation on realestate.com.au over the last seven days.

Hot on its heels was a cottage duplex in Westerna Australia, with each seperate property listed from $750,000.

But that one is now under offer, giving the Oates home the clear lead in the buyer stakes.

PREVIOUSLY

Just weeks after his retirement from the Brisbane Broncos, NRL player Corey Oates and his wife Tegan have put their Samford country estate up for sale.

Completed in mid-2021, the sprawling six-bedroom home on Ascot Cres comes complete with a games room, swimming pool, and breathtaking mountain and valley views.

Tegan said the couple bought the 1ha property as a blank canvas in 2019 with the vision of building a private country retreat within easy reach of Brisbane’s CBD.

“We’d always wanted acreage and the space to be able to build our dream home with a view,” she said.

“We wanted to create a great lifestyle home that’s very family oriented.”

What the? Grim reality in the hunt for a rental

The residence is on a semi-rural block at Samford

The pool and views are the focal point

The couple were heavily involved in planning the home’s spacious design, devising a U-shaped layout with the swimming pool and views as the central focal point.

“Corey wanted this design from the get-go,” Mrs Oates said.

“And we kept bouncing ideas off each other to come up with this.”

It has views of the mountains

Described as a ‘country retreat just 30 minutes from Brisbane city’, the home boasts a spacious master retreat, games room with bar, rumpus room, four-car garage, and a central living and dining space leading directly to a large alfresco area overlooking the pool.

The stunning kitchen

The fully fenced property enjoys a hilltop position just a short walk from Samford village and also includes sealed driveways, a shed with solar panels, and manicured grounds.

“There’s a long driveway for bike and scooter riding, and there’s lots of play areas for the kids to run around,” Tegan said.

“It just a really nice lifestyle and the Samford area is fantastic.

“It really is a hidden gem out here.”

The open plan living spaces open to the outdoors

The home was designed with ease of living front of mind, and Tegan said it was an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life or as the perfect venue to entertain family and friends.

“We love being outside with the kids, whether that’s swimming in the pool, running around, or entertaining in the bar area,” she said.

“Personally, I love spending time in the kitchen soaking up that beautiful view, and it’s just a great way to enjoy the Queensland lifestyle.”

The theatre room

While the move comes within weeks of Oates announcing his retirement from the Broncos, the property sale has been on the agenda for some time.

“It was always our plan to spend three or four years here then move to be closer to the kids’ schools,” Tegan said.

Wake up to those views

But the couple will walk away with countless cherished memories of watching their dream home come to fruition.

“Coming home to this house is just beautiful, and we have so many great memories of time spent with the kids,” she said.

“We brought our son home to this house, he’s gone from baby to toddler here, and it’s been wonderful to watch the children enjoy this place.

“They’re the memories we will cherish.”

The property is scheduled to go to auction on November 23, if not sold prior, with agent Sonya Treloar of Ray White Bridgeman Downs noting there had been strong interest even prior to the property being publicly advertised.

“It’s a most magnificent home with the ambience of a country retreat, right on the edge of inner city living,” Ms Treloar said.

Plenty of driveway to ride scooters

Oates recently embraced a new role as a traffic reporter.

The 29-year-old, who hung up his boots earlier this month, has been a daily fixture on KIIS97.3’s “Robin and Kip Show” with hosts Robin Bailey and Kip Wightman.

In a bid to help Oates find his next career move, the radio duo launched a segment called “Find Corey a Job,” and Oates’ latest task took him to literal new heights — reading the traffic report from a helicopter.

“Good morning, Brisbane. It’s me, Captain Corey live over the skies of Brisbane. I just went over my own house, and I tell you what, I need to mow my bloody grass — doesn’t look bloody good at all,” he said during his live cross.

“The Wiggles have a big red car today, but I am live in a big red traffic chopper.”
