Rare inlet home stuns viewers with view from the city to the sea

Not many homes get an elevated view of both Brisbane’s city skyline and the sprawling ocean – but this Wellington Point house does.

The six-bedroom, four-bathroom property at 176 Main Rd is called ‘Elysium’ for a reason: it’s a private retreat that offers a sliver of coastal property on a rare Brisbane inlet.

It’s one of Queensland’s five best homes up for sale this week, including a unique 70s build and a home with seamless indoor-outdoor living.

176 Main Rd, Wellington Point

The home’s two-storey lifestyle is on a 704 sqm property, with bedrooms and a large open deck on the upper floor of the house.

This gives the lower floor enough space for a guest bedroom and huge living area, seamlessly leading outside to a 100,000 litre pool.

Vendor Amanda Thornton lived at the property for more than 15 years, and had fond memories of extravagant Christmases admiring the gorgeous view.

“I always just loved being up in my bedroom, in the top of the house,” she said. “You felt like you could see the whole world, yet the world couldn’t see you.”

The house is one of few at Wellington Point’s inlet, giving residences a vast view of the ocean and Brisbane City in the distance.

With a recently updated electrical system to suit the modern homeowner’s needs, the house combines a prized coastal location with easy living.

Agents Joseph Lordi and Kaden Rogers of Storia Estate Groups Birkdale are currently negotiating for the home.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom property at 515/61 Noosa Springs Dr, Noosa Heads, has 740 sqm of interior space that it uses to make a wonder of a home.

With 1,500 sqm overall, more than half of that is spent on a unique interior, with an entire floor for one of its two master bedrooms.

The luxury interior leads into a stunning view of the nearby golf course, with a river running alongside the home.

The house is not just big enough for a media room and office – but an indoor heated pool as well, sitting right next to the living room and giving its residents the chance to swim no matter the weather.

Sitting by Noosa Springs Golf Course and with a sprawling view of the nearby river, the home is an extravagant home for those who can manage such a large space.

98 Oceana Tce, Manly

98 Oceana Tce, Manly

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house at 98 Oceana Tce, Manly, has a unique look that stands out even in a coastal neighbourhood.

The home was designed to compliment the view of the sea, with stone accents and plants strategically decorated around the design to remind its resident of how close they are to the water.

The house is littered with flourishes that remind its owners of how close they are to the sea.

The house makes strategic use of its space: with living and entertainment areas in the top two floors, and an undercroft and gym on its lower level.

With an emphasis on natural light, handmade Moroccan tiling and a security and airconditioning system, the home is up to date with modern expectations for a designer home with a view.

Sarah Hackett and Matthew Foote of Place New Farm are accepting top offers for the home until November 19.

79 Carey St, Bardon

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 79 Carey St, Bardon, features a striking contrast between its modernist design and its sprawling Mr Coot-tha views.

The two-storey property is full of wide open spaces, with giant sliding glass doors giving its residents seamless access to the 926 sqm property.

Sitting in a quiet cul-de-sac, the master retreat and 15m pool both give luxury views of all the area has to offer.

The house can be arranged so that walking from the inside to the outside is completely seamless.

The upper level features a rooftop garden right by the bedrooms. The ground floor has a variety of recreational areas, such as a large gym and games room.

With plenty of space in the outdoor entertaining alfresco, the home is big enough to share the mountain views with a both large family and a ton of guests.

Ray White Ashgrove agents Adam Downes and Gerard Sherlock are searching for best offers on the home until November 12.

21 Columbia St, Chapel Hill

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom house at 21 Columbia St, Chapel Hill, is a unique home: nearly fifty years old, made for just one family and their eccentric tastes.

The home was built in 1978 for vendor Ian Scrimshaw and his wife, who stumbled on the property for sale when some kids in the neighbourhood told them not to buy it.

The vendors had the house built 46 years ago, with a ton of quirky design choices based on their mood at the time.

That unique 70s charm has been preserved since its build, and is now ready for a new owner.

Some of those design choices carry over to the exterior, cradled by trees surrounding the house.

Mr Scrimshaw said he was going to miss the location, nestled among the birds on 1389 sqm of land. He added the decision to give the home its quirky interior design was made on a whim, based on how he and his wife were feeling.

“I don’t know why we selected the colours we did, he said. “We saw the colours that we liked, and we put them in the kitchen and [painted] the doors.”

Sitting in an inner cul-de-sac and with more than a dozen rooms across two levels, the property has a lot of potential for upgrades – or could simply be a new homeowner’s private taste of the 70s.
